Helsinki Vintage

On September 19th I attended Helsinki Vintage for the first time. It is a large vintage themed sales event that was attended by over 2000 visitors on this occasion. The programme included live music, swing dance performances, panel discussions and you could get your hair done vintage style. I had a fun time browsing various items but I didn't actually end up buying anything because the event was just prior to my move to London. For me it was mainly an occasion to spend time with my wonderful friends and like-minded vintage enthusiasts, including many members of Fintage and lovely bloggers, such as Fiona Timantti, Ina, Ulrika, Gina Americana and Anniina.

Here's what I wore:

Handbag - 1940s vintage (via Ebay)
Shoes - 1940s vintage (via Tampere Vintage)

Ahoy from London!

Hello, everyone! The past few weeks have really and truly been a crazy whirlwind but I've finally made the move from Finland to London, settled in and began studying on Monday. It is unreal for me to think that I now live in London! I actually study film on the site of the first demonstration in Britain of motion pictures, presented in 1896. Also, Britain's first film school was established there in 1933. It is such a wonderful feeling to live in a city where you feel anything could happen, where anything is possible, and to study in a site of such rich history of cinema. Makes me feel all tingly and funny inside.

Naturally, I will be blogging my London adventures here whenever time allows me to. Outfit posts will probably be rather scarce in the future since I was able to bring a very limited amount of clothing with me, and I no longer have anyone to photograph me on a regular basis. Instead I will focus on writing more about the magical city itself, the events I attend, vintage shops I visit, the finds that I make, perhaps write more about the films I see as well. I hope you stay tuned for all of that!

PS. Speaking of events, would any of you Londoners by any chance like to attend Erotica with me in November to see the lovely Dita Von Teese perform her Opium Den show?

Thrifting with the Evil Dressmaker

I spent Tuesday thrifting with the fabulous Rhia from Evil Dressmaker. We drove to Viiala and Lempäälä, small places not too far away from Tampere, and went to four different flea markets. Rhia ended up taking home a gorgeous vintage inspired autumn coat, which was a real bargain with the price tag of 1,75€, while I found a pair of vintage galoshes for 5€... Bring on London weather! Afterward we headed for some curry and naan bread at a cosy Indian restaurant, which was a little too yummy since we ended up eating ourselves pretty miserable. ;)

Here's what I wore:

A very big house in the country

My sweetheart and I took a mini-break last weekend, spending a couple of days at a gorgeous 19th century country house outside of the city. Here's a fall-time, countryside inspired look of mine... All modern this time, actually, but comfortable and well suited for the season.

Skirt - Olivia Rouge
Cardigan - Gift from mom (from Portugal)
Shirt - Dorothy Perkins
Shoes - Line Collection

Hello, September!

Can you believe September is already here? How swiftly the days go by!

Sadly I got sick with cold and ended up spending a good week plus some bedridden. On the positive side, I watched a lot of old movies, including Boris Karloff/Frankenstein and Fritz Lang marathons, and did a lot of reading on the history of film to prepare for university. I'm moving to London in just a few week's time - eeeep!

A couple of days back, on my first healthy day in what felt like ages, Minna and I ventured to Amurin Helmi, our favorite cafe in Tampere. It is located in an old worker's housing quarter in Amuri. Amuri's history dates back to the founding of Tampere in 1779. It is a wonderful cafe filled with nostalgia and tangible pieces of history - and the best pancake and Karelian pastry in the city! If you ever end up Tampere, Amurin Helmi is definitely one of the places that I'd warmly recommend visiting.
