About Me

My name is Riikka and I'm a Helsinki-based film historian. I'm a plus size gal with a penchant for the fashions of the earlier side of the 20th century, the 1930s in particular, which is what this blog is essentially about.

I have an MA with distinction in Film Studies from the University of Westminster in London, where I wrote my thesis on Jean Harlow and the transformation of her star image in the 1930s. Film history and the representation of women, especially female stardom, are amongst my greatest research interests. I work at a film archive and tend to spend my weekends researching, writing and lecturing about film history.

Besides film and fashion, I enjoy feminism, electronic music, dancing, glitter and dogs.

Don't hesitate to say hi or contact me in case of any questions.
